A lot of recruitment agencies do not accept unsolicited CVs. That means that you cannot post or fax them your CV and then expect them to find you a job. These agencies only accept CVs as a response to a position advertised. However, once they have your CV they will enter your information into their database.

However, this is also changing. These days more and more agencies do accept CVs and will add you to their candidate database. If you want to work through an agency then pick the one that you feel most comfortable with or the one who was most excited about you. Treat your agency well (be on time, return their calls, send them the documents they asked for, etc) and they will treat you well. Try and build a good relationship with your consultant.
