WRITE A BRILLIANT CV - COVER LETTER

A cover letter is send with your CV and, if written well, can make a big difference. Below are some do's and don'ts of cover letters:

  • Your cover letter should be on the same type of paper and in the same font as your CV.

  • Address it to the person mentioned in the advert.

  • Use the exact position title or reference code quoted in the advert.

  • Always include a cover letter even when one was not specifically requested in the advert.

  • Remember that your cover letter is a way of showing your reporting and writing skills.

  • Customise the letter in order to reflect the correct details of the recruiter.

  • Do not mention any salary expectations in the letter - that can be discussed during the interview.

  • Remember that your cover letter is not a copy of your CV.

  • Always mention one or two of your biggest achievements in your cover letter - prospective employers are looking for successful people after all.

  • Sign the cover letter at the bottom of the page.
